Building Permit Information
When property owners or authorized agents want to construct, alter or add to a building, they must apply for and secure a building permit in accordance with state, federal and city requirements. Building permits are issued by the Building Department. Because Gulf Shores is located in an environmentally sensitive area and many areas are located in flood zones or high hazard zones, building requirements are not the same in all areas. Properties in Gulf Shores are located in the following flood zones: A Zones, B Zones, C Zones, V Zones. For more information on Building Permits, contact the Building Department at 968-1150.

Burning Permit
Permits are issued by the Gulf Shores Fire Department. Fees are charged for commercial burning, but not for residential burning. For more information, call 968-1166.

Library
Thomas B. Hurricane Passes
Gulf Shores residents, property owners and business owners may purchase hurricane passes to allow the holder re-entry onto the island after the mayor has given the “all-clear.” Passes may be obtained at the front desk at City Hall. Show proof of residence and/or business ownership. You may use a driver’s license showing a Gulf Shores physical address, a business license, voter registration card, current lease or rent receipt, deed or utility bill. The cost for the pass is $10.

Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge
12295 Hwy. 180540-7720 The refuge features 6,200 acres of natural oasis. Highlights include five miles of gulf beach, fresh- and saltwater fishing, five miles of walking trails, and a museum. Trails are open year-round, 7 days a week, during daylight hours. Museum hours: Monday–Friday 8–4

Gulf State Park
State Hwy. 135 948-7275 This 6,000-acre park features picnic areas, an 18-hole golf course, an 825-foot fishing pier, a nature center, cabins, campsites, and a 144-room motel and convention center on Hwy. 182. Activities include fishing, swimming, biking, tennis and canoeing.

Canal Park Boat Ramp
Located south of the canal. From Hwy. 59, turn west on 20th Ave., right on E. 1st Ave., right on Canal Rd. No fee.

Lake Shelby at Gulf State Park
Hwy. 135 off Hwy. 182. Picnic area. Entrance fee is $1 for adults, 50¢ for seniors and children ages 6–12; $2 fishing fee plus AL fishing license; $2 launch fee.

David L. Bodenhamer Center

Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and seasonal passes available as well as annual memberships. Includes fitness center, gymnasium (with spectator seating), indoor pool, indoor track, racquetball courts, aerobic area, saunas, locker/shower facilities, game/activity area (table and board games; TV/VCR) and commons with telephones, vending machines and seating area. Many types of activity and exercise classes with trained staff is offered. Leagues and pick-up games in basketball and volleyball are available. Watch for special programs for family fun.

Gulf Shores offers beach parking passes each summer, effective March–September. Passes can be obtained at Gulf Shores City Hall. Burn Permits
Burn permit requests must be made through the fire department, which is located at 25853 John Snook Drive. The city enforces the state code that prohibits gas grills above the first floor. For additional information, please call 981-6166.

Business License And Tax Information
Phone: 981-6783, Fax: 981-2551. Business license and city tax information may be obtained from the department during the regular business day (8–5). Anyone doing business within the city limits or police jurisdiction of the City of Orange Beach must purchase an annual business license before conducting activities. Hurricane Decals
Hurricane decals are issued by zone. All city utility customers will receive their decals every other year. Condo associations will distribute decals to their property owners. New residents must present proof of residency at City Hall to receive their decals. Business owners must provide a list of necessary personnel on your letterhead to Administrative Department at City Hall. There is a $10 replacement fee for each decal (limit of 2 total decals per household). For additional information, please call 981-6096.

Sewer & Garbage
4099 Orange Beach Blvd. Hours: Monday–Friday 8–5. For information about fees and services, please call 981-6096. Within the city limits of Orange Beach, a single family dwelling fee of $20 for sewer and $10 for garbage is billed monthly. Garbage service is mandatory.

Flood—Properties in Orange Beach are located in the following flood zones: AE Zones (flood hazard areas), X Zones and VE Zones (flood hazard areas). The Building Division (981-2610) can furnish information on Flood Zones. The City of Orange Beach participates in the National Flood Insurance Program so you may be eligible for a discount on your flood insurance.

4849 Wilson Blvd. 981-PLAY (7529) Hours: Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.–7 p.m., Sunday 1–6 p.m. After-school and school holiday programs are provided, as well as the annual Camp Gator summer camp program. Structured programs for youth include sports, arts and crafts, and games. Amenities include a gymnasium, fitness center, aerobics room, game room and classrooms. Waterfront Park
26425 Canal Rd. (1/4 mile east of Hwy. 161) Open to the public year-round. This beautiful family park is located on scenic Wolf Bay. Amenities include 400' fishing pier with covered pavilions and seating, picnic shelters with grills, restrooms, paved walking path, parking and Kids Park. The park is a permanent wi-fi hotspot with high-speed wireless internet connectivity available 24/7. The Pleasure Island Art Association (981-ARTS [2787]), is located in the historic Campbell House, which serves as a gallery with office space. The PIAA is a nonprofit organization composed of artisans from the area. Numerous art festivals and events are held at Waterfront Park.

Orange Beach Kids Park
26425 Canal Rd. (1/4 mile east of Hwy. 161) Built by volunteers and members of the Orange Beach Community Center Association, the Kids Park covers nearly a half acre with areas for all ages to enjoy. Wooden towers, swings, climbing platforms and misting stations bring hours of fun.

Orange Beach Senior Activity Center
26251 Canal Rd. Phone: 981-3440. The center is located adjacent to the Orange Beach Library. Amenities include arts and crafts, games, multi-purpose rooms and a screened-in back porch overlooking Wolf Bay. Year-round senior programs are offered by our professional staff.

Orange Beach Sportsplex
4385 William Silvers Pkwy. Phone: 981-6626. This regional sports facility includes venues for youth baseball, softball, soccer, adult softball, football, concerts and semi pro football, and hosts the SEC Women’s Soccer Championship and many other collegiate events. Offshore powerboat racing makes its dry pits home at the facility with race teams and crews opening up to meet the public. The SportsPlex is a permanent wi-fi hotspot with high-speed wireless internet connectivity available 24/7.

Orange Beach Aquatics Center

Orange Beach Tennis Center

Orange Beach Indian and Sea Museum
25850 John Snook Dr. 981-8545 Hours: Tuesday–Friday 9–4, Saturday 9–2. Admission is free. The museum houses local artifacts and memorabilia relating to our Native American and fishing heritage. Families of early fishermen have donated supplies and collectibles that make us mindful of the challenges and achievements in the early days of our fishing industry.

Toll Road
The Foley Beach Express
Terminates/ begins on Hwy. 180, three miles west of Highway 161. Toll booths are located on the bridge landing north of the canal. For information regarding fares and short- or long-term passes, please call 968-3415. Orange Beach registered voters may obtain a Beach Express Discount Card by showing proof of voter registration at the toll booth offices.
