A Pop-up Card in Two Sizes.

This is a free download for a set of pages that can make a pop-up Mother's Day card in two
sizes. We recommend you print on card/cover stock paper. You will need to cut the main
card with an exacto or utility knife where the marked slits are that form the pop-up
supports. The baskets and vases of flowers are cut from a separate sheet of paper and
glued to the pop-up supports. The smaller, quarter fold card has an included cut and
assemble envelope that you can print on plain paper or pastel paper if you want. You can
also just use a purchased envelope. If you print the larger card on the heavier card/cover
stock, you can simply fold it over and tape the edge to mail "as is" for the
price of regular postage. Step by step photos are shown here.
The Large Card
First print a piece of card stock with the patterned design on one side only. Turn it
over and print the pop-up template page on the reverse side. Lay the paper, pop-up side up
on a old magazine or a cutting mat and using a straight edge or ruler, score along the
dotted lines. The better you score, the easier the folds will be and the better the card
will look. You can use a smooth dinner knife, an old out-of-ink ball point pen, or any
sharp but smooth object. I used the tip of a pair of pointy tweezers. Then cut the six
solid lines that form the supports. Carefully crease the supports forward towards the
inside of the card by pushing from behind.

Next print a piece of card stock with the plain pink color. Turn it over
and print the curved line template on the back. Score it across the middle along the
dotted line. Using plain or fancy edged scissors, cut along the curved line. You are going
to glue this cut piece to the back of your card to cover the holes that the pop-up
supports make.

These photos show the curved piece glued to the back (outside) of the card.
One photo shows a fancy edged piece the other was cut with plain scissors. Both look good.
Print and cut out your flowers on a piece of cardstock.

Glue your flowers to the upright supports in the card. The extra banners
are included in case you want to write another message and add one as an embellishment.

This card can now be simply folded over and taped closed and addressed
on the outside and mailed for standard postage.
The Smaller Quarter-Fold
Mother's Day Card
Print the small card insides on a piece of heavy
paper. Score the dotted lines and cut the slits that become the pop-up supports. It
will be easiest to make the supports do right if you first crease the centerfolds a bit
and carefully push the supports out from behind and gently crease the folds where you
scored. If you don't score, it is almost impossible to make them turnout nice.

After you have the supports creased inward towards the center of the
card, fold the other half over to become the front of the card.

You can trim the edges of your card if you want. Print and cut out the
smaller flowers and glue them to the supports.

The front of the smaller card will have these flowers showing.

I like using the Zig Archival Quality 2-Way Glue Pen Chisel Tip
pen
on projects like this. It applies just the right amount of adhesive and the paper does not
wrinkle. The fancy edge Scallop Paper Edgers
scissors are nice but not necessary
If you want to make your own envelope, print it on plain white or pastel
paper, cut on solid lines, score and fold on dotted lines. Glue the flaps closed (see
below). Address and Mail your mother's Day card.
